The first artist I came across while doing my research is Carrie Adell. This Artist works with a does not just work with lost wax casting only , but she incoperates it with different techniques like Patina.
In the picture above is a neck piece by Adell called the Honeycomb Collar. In this piece she incoperates lost wax casting which is in a form of bees and a honeycomb link chain. 14- and 18-karat gold with citrinesand diamonds ; cast and constructed . This piece examplifies the fine detailing and realism attainable with patient wax modeling.


The second artist I found was Lee B. Peck. who specialises in lost wax casting and bringing realism into jewellery , in the picture above  she exposes her skills in wax carving.

Answering My Research Question

Ansering my research question , i had to find ways to create 3D forms and the one way i could think of is lost wax casting . This is a technique  that  i really enjoy using , it requires a lot of patience and practice. I first had to create tools in which i can use to carve in the wax the way i want to. I feel like this technique brings more life and form to a jewellery piece. In my project i also wanted do jewellery that resembles unity , some of the things i used are chain links and the use of mixed materials which portray unity.

Peace & Unity

My idea for this design process was peace and unity . Through my time being alive I notice a lot of things and one of my main concerns was how the world is devided in so many ways that it becomes hard for us to unite and work as one to make the world a better place

what technique works best for 3D detailed forms in jewellery

On my jewellery collection iv decided to a technique that i enjoy using the most and which i feel can expose my thaughts and intentions in a way that is not difficult to understand.

LOST WAX  CASTING

wax carving is a technique i had come across through the internet before it was thaught to me at varsity. The ability to carve anything you want on wax and be able to turn it to jewellery really fascinates me.

Platinum Project

Before I started this project , my lecturer requested that I collect items that might inspire my platinum piece that I would work on. I decided to get out of my comfort zone and try to create something that is more organic , and being the person that I am who loves nature , the first thing that came to my mind was ‘trees’. I then decided that I would concentrate more on the leaves of the tree because I am amused by the veins that create an organic pattern on the leaves. For me the veins on leaves symbolise life because just like us human they also need veins to live. In this project I try to collaborate nature with jewellery by portraying the veins on the jewellery. I use the veins of the leaf to create a texture that , I had variety of ways to this but I had recently learnt the technique of fly pressing and I felt like it would give me the best impression of the texture that I was looking for. I also pierced out a portion of the jewellery to create an impression of a skeleton of a dry leaf.

I experimented with Punching lines to create an impression of the veins , it was not successful.

Clay Elements

After picking a type of fabric i had to pick out a element that i would further on use to develop my design

This is the element that i have chosen.

After picking a emelent i then created clay clay versions of it , in a flat form and also in the form of 3D.

I then arranged them in various ways to create figures and forms.

 

This is the fabric that me and my group have chosen , it consist of big and balled geometric shapes which we found eye catching , even though we had a hard time picking the material we like the most but this is the one we could relate to the most. 

These are a few sketches i did on my journey through the market , embarking on a journey to purchase the fabric i will be using. I am no stranger to the market as i travel there everyday , but on this certain journey i came across some figures i have not noticed before , i reallised that the market has a lot of stuff that can inspire you to create beautifull art

Final Piece

Through out the process of making this piece i learnt and experienced a lot of things , such as trying to solder a lot of small pieces together without damaging it , i learnt that flame control plays a huge role in a jewellers life and that one mistake could mess up all your work , although it did not come out exactly as i expected i am quiet pleased with the outcome.

Cannatille Piece Design Process

I started my design process by drawing a face of a lion and and breaking it down into multiple parts which would make it easier to find the elements i want to use.

These tear drop shapes are one of the most used elements that i found and they are meant to represent the lions hair.
